South Africa is moving learner’s licence testing from a paper booklet onto a touchscreen, province by province. This page tracks what is published about that rollout, province by province, and says plainly where nothing is published yet.

This tracker is checked and updated by hand, not from a live feed. No machine-readable list of which testing centres run the CLLT is published, so we read what government and news sources say and cite each one below. Always confirm with your own testing centre before travelling. A province shown as “rolled out” here does not guarantee every centre in it has switched over.

    • Western Cape: added two more provincial sources. George Municipality announced its own computerised learner's licence testing on 16 April 2025, and the Western Cape Government's mobility page announced the provincial launch on 28 May 2025. Neither changes the province's status, which was already documented; both make the Western Cape the only province where the rollout is traceable to named centres and dates.
    • Eastern Cape: added the earliest CLLT source we have found anywhere. A South African Government media statement of 25 November 2011, issued by the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, records the country's first CLLT pilot site opening at the Ngqushwa Traffic Department in Peddie. This is historical and says nothing about which Eastern Cape centres run the CLLT today. The province's current status is unchanged and still rests on the RTMC's national figure.
    • No province-level list of CLLT testing centres has been published by the RTMC or by any provincial department that we can find. That has been true at every check since this tracker was built and it is the single biggest gap in it.

    Re-checked, nothing new published: Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape. We searched for a province-specific centre list or announcement for each of them on this date and found none.

  • Western Cape

    Rolled out

    All 18 City of Cape Town driving licence testing centres had moved onto the CLLT by mid-February 2026. The Western Cape provincial government's own service page states that all learner's licence tests in the province are conducted via the CLLT system.

  • Eastern Cape

    Rolled out; per-centre list not published

    The RTMC's national figure (more than 300 centres across all nine provinces) covers Eastern Cape, but we have not found a published, Eastern Cape-specific list of which testing centres have moved onto the CLLT. Treat this as "rolled out somewhere in the province", not as "every centre". The country's first CLLT pilot site did open in this province, at the Ngqushwa Traffic Department in Peddie, in November 2011. That is history rather than evidence about today: it says nothing about which Eastern Cape centres run the CLLT now, so the status here still rests on the RTMC's national figure.

  • Free State
