DOFA Deadline Calculator: RE5 Deadlines for Your Reps (Free)
A representative's RE5 deadline is two years after their date of first appointment (DOFA): a DOFA of 14 May 2025 means the RE5 must be passed by 14 May 2027. This free calculator works that out for a whole team at once and shows who is safe, at risk or overdue.
Last updated 27 October 2026
Enter each rep's DOFA date and the calculator shows their deadline, how long is left and a status, sorted with the most urgent first. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is sent to us and nothing is stored.
The rule: under FSCA FAIS Notice 86 of 2018 (Annexure A, condition 2(1)), a representative working under supervision must pass the RE5 within 2 years of their date of first appointment. Booking the exam is not enough; it must be passed by then.
For representatives first appointed only for Tier 2 products or only for execution of sales, the two years run from their first appointment for a Tier 1 product instead (condition 2(2)), so enter that date as the DOFA.

DOFA deadline questions
DOFA is the date of first appointment: the day a person was first appointed as a representative. For representatives first appointed only for Tier 2 products or only for execution of sales, the two years run from their first Tier 1 appointment instead. It is not on a payslip. It sits in the FSP's records and on the representative register the FSP maintains, so ask your compliance officer for the exact date in writing.
How to plan backwards from it: the RE5 deadline timeline.
They cannot remain on the FSP's representative register. The consequence set out in the FAIS framework is debarment, and in practice some FSPs remove a representative from the register before that point. The deadline is for passing, not for booking, so leave room for results and a possible rewrite.
More detail: RE5 requirements.
No. A Key Individual must pass the RE1 before the FSCA approves them as a Key Individual (Board Notice 194 of 2017, section 26(6)), so there is no two-year window. This calculator covers representatives and the RE5 only.
No. It is a free tool from PassPath, an independent exam preparation company, and it is not an FSCA or Moonstone tool. It applies the published two-year rule to the dates you enter; confirm each rep's deadline with your compliance officer.
